Really...... bosanlah!

BORING !!!

I would have thought the new budget revealed in Parliament yesterday would have been earth shattering for the rakyat. Something that the Rakyat can really look forward in helping out in the difficult times ahead. Sadly on a personal note I am disappointed.
There are many reasons for this. Firstly, I am disappointed that cigarette prices are to be increased only 60 sen a pack. With all the health problems related to smoking I would have thought that the government would have come down hard on this sin tax. Sadly No! I think the increase of 60 sen would be negligible and would be hardly felt by smokers.
No increase in alcohol taxes ? Why ah ? To make a certain sizable part of the community happy is it ?
Less one percent of income tax ..... yeah at least I am happy here. Thanks gomen.
Wah... increased spending on transportation.... How much now... ya rite...35 billion RM to be spent. Why do I have this strange fear that come 2014 public transportation would still suck and the money would have been pocketed by some well connected persons. Maybe I should be optimistic and tunggu dan lihat. Nah... sure all go to waste onelah!
In fact I think instead of talking about the budget i should talk about the Auditor Generals report. From what I read of the report as "reported" by the New Straits Times from pages 12-13 the report is damning of the kind of wastage and blatant disregard for proper procedure in the public sector. That is why I say all the allocation is well and good, what happens after the allocations are made is the problem. Year in year out the same sort of report card is given by the AG but what happens then.... Absolutely zilch. Come the next year the same kind of report would be produced. Don't believe me ? Anyone wants a wager on this ?
Finally I think what the PM said in passing during his budget speech left me blinking in wonderment for a while. He said the BN won the elections and have the mandate of the people to run the country as they deem fit. No one is going to stop this in obvious reference to Anwar and gang. The thing that I would like to say here is this. Hello... sudah lupakah Parti Bersatu Sabah ? Did crossovers happen then ?Didn't defections take place then? All this despite standing against BN during the elections ? Were the people of Sabah cheated then ? Didnt the BN encourage it then ? Semua ini sudah lupakah ? Why the double standards Mr PM Sir ?
Cakap tak serupa bikin. Politicians....... Just cant trust them.

Why ban the Malaysia Today site ?

Some are just plain stupid lah !

It amazes me how this government continues to be STUPID ! There I said it. This government is plain stupid. There I said it again! Look I say this because the government despite all its assurances to the whole world of not censoring the internet, has done just that. The MCMC (Malaysian Multimedia Communication and Multimedia Commission) has instructed all the 16 ISP providers to block all access and ban the site known as "Malaysia Today". Wah.... so crever !
What can I say if that is not plain stupid. You see this is where the cat and mouse games begin. The author of the site has just opened a mirror site to the former site. The mirror site is publishing the exact news that the MCMC/government doesn't want published. Hello.... you people sleeping or what ? Look all that banning is going to produce zero results. If at all, it makes you people look plain stupid. What.... Do I hear you want to ban that site as well ? Duh..!!!
Anyway the more important issue is this, What happened to all the assurances of the past ? What will happen to the Mutimedia Super Corridor that Malaysia wants promoted to the world ? Now the whole world knows that Malaysia went back on its word. Would Malaysia be reduced to be the laughing stock of the world ? (Lama sudah like that oh....! Thought i heard someone say that).
The Home Affairs Minister says the banning is warranted as the author continues to publish lies and continues to libel people. I say absolute rubbish! What nonsense. If the author had broken some law of the country then charge him in court for publishing false news. Ask the persons who had been defamed to sue for being defamed. Ban the site ? Duh...!!!!
To ban the site only gives credence to whatever that author of "Malaysia Today" is saying. Maybe the government takut the people will believe the "lies" as told by the author? To this I say " Berani kerana benar takut kerana salah "!!!
Mr Minister your logic is devoid of any merits. Absolute poppycock!

Who is the Devil?

Who is the Devil now ? Anwar or Dr M ?

To all who have been following my blog........ apologies for not updating. Had been in Ipoh the past few days. Just got back today. Minta maaf ok.
Today I am on the subject of the Devil. Justice Ian Chin had recently called the former PM a.k.a Dictator/The one who destroyed all institutions of government in the name of progress, Mamak, Senile old man etc.. the devil incarnate. Hmmm.... Interesting don't you think.Well it appears that this man is reported to have said that the current MP for Permatang Pauh of being capable of "convincing the devil to follow him"! Wow ! Sorry lah all you devils in Permatang Pauh (since the majority of you decided to vote for Anwar).
In my book the Devil is the one whom had flouted all rules of good governance and destroyed the foundations of this nation when he was in power. Corruption, malaise in the civil service, racial polarisation, failed education system, failed judiciary, etc... Need I go on ? To me this person should be called the Devil.
As far as Anwar is concerned... I think i speak for myself here. I think I will wait and SEE. I don't know how nor what Anwar will do to improve the rot. At the moment as much as I dislike it I guess I have to agree that Anwar may bring about the winds of change that this nation craves at this moment in time. I am hoping that the winds come soon and frees Malaysia from its current shackles.
Question is : Will it happen ? Will there be better Malaysia for all of us irrespective of race, creed or religion ?

PM on the LRT

Wah ! So concerned for the Rakyat ! Only now Sir ?

My 12 year old son asked me a very interesting question regarding the above picture.This picture appeared in the Star newspaper recently. He asked me why are some of the people in the picture breaking the law ? I said what ?.. What do you mean ? Then he said this. "Were we not taught not to cross the yellow line at the LRT station ? Are there not signs to that effect at the LRT stations ? So why is the PM not doing anything about it ? Is he not concerned for the safety of the people who were clearly "overjoyed" to see him ? Why is the PM allowing these people to be law breakers ? Frankly, I had no answers. Sometimes kids see things that we adults just don't see. Hmmm.......

I guess in some small way this picture reflects the current rot in the country. It is an illustration of how you can get away with something if you are well connected. Remember the Lingam tapes ? Ah... so long ago. All is quiet now... hardly a word mentioned in the papers these days. Sad ! "Malaysia Boleh !!!" you say ?

Sigh....

Wah... who is this now ?

Ewah, ewah !!!

Any guesses as to who is in the middle of this picture ? What's up SIL ? I thought you very macho and all. What's with the girlie dress ? Macam mana ni ?

Ah... now we know what the SIL does in his free time... Hmmm..... Malaysia Boleh !

Cheers,

Nice one Mr C !

Kita semua dok tunggulah ! Sampai tumbuh tanduk you !

Mr C who keeps sending me interesting e-mails has sent me a poser. I liked the poser enough to put it here. Wonder if you can fill in the blanks ?

ANWAR - PM IN WAITING

A A B - OPPOSITION LEADER IN WAITING

N T R - PRI_ _ _ _ _ IN WAITING ?

Fill in the blanks guys. Have fun. Its all in jest !!!

Cheers,

M V Nathan

Anwar the new PM ? Really ? Dont pray pray!

If it happens then the BN would be shell shocked!

Is it it possible ? Would there be crossovers from the BN to the Pakatan coallition ? Would history be made ? Would the opposition front really be governing this country come September ? Would Anwar be PM ?

I don't know any of the answers to the above questions. I am stumped. But many people I know are adamant that this man Anwar is going to be installed as the new PM of Malaysia come September! I don't knowlah. Simply just too much to digest these days. Anyway this man has to win the by election in Permatang Pauh this 26 first. Will he win ? It will take a very brave man to bet against this from happening. I am sure he will win. The only question is by what kind of majority ?

So come the 26/8/08 by my " crystal ball", Anwar should be back in Parliament. Well and good. Does that mean a better Malaysia for all Malaysians irrespective of race, creed and religion? Would it mean a better Malaysia where equal and fair oppotunities are given to everyone ? Real meritocracy paractised as opposed to the sham that is being practised now ? A better Malaysia in all aspects ? Hmmm....

Looks like we all have to wait and see how the story ends. I am hoping for a happy ending. For this I am keeping my fingers crossed. Maybe I should cross my toes too. Just to be on the safe side. You never knowlah with politics in Malaysia ..... "Semua boleh !!!"

Truth or lies ?

Stop you liar ! Speak the truth or forever be gone!

I read that a certain "victim" had sworn on the holy book claiming that he was sodomised by a certain someone. He says that it is a personal matter between him, the perpetrator and God almighty. It also appears that the so called perpetrator is also a potential candidate for a certain by election. The thing that I found incredible in the whole matter are the responses that this "victim" gave the press yesterday i.e as follow:-

a) He didn't know that the alleged perpetrator was going to be standing in the by election sometime soon. It was purely a coincidence.

b) He was making this matter as a "personal" matter between him,God and the alleged perpetrator.

c) He is straight and not gay and certainly not in love with the alleged perpetrator.

Responses from me would be this. I am just thinking out aloud here. I find the above responses by the "victim" incredible because of this :-

a) Didn't the "victim" make certain postings on his blog before which was dutifully carried in the mainstream media that he was wishing the alleged perpetrator all the best in the up coming by elections? How can he not know now that the alleged perpetrator was going to be a candidate in the up coming by elections ? Strange... mmmmm....

b) Personal matter ? Duh... going to see the DPM and police and all other people is making it personal ? Man... that is calling it "publicising to the whole world lah"!!! Where got private and personal some more ?

c) Not gay ? Man the charges in court seem to indicate "consensual" to say the least. What not gay are you talking about lah ? Anyway why did you not immediately lodge a police report when it happened. 8 times ? Dear me that indicates "enjoyment of some kind" to say the least. Only report to police after meeting the DPM ? Why ah ? How come you so buddy buddy with him ah? Thought he was a very busy man ?

Anyway , maybe we should all wait for the trial to start. Sure very interesting one!

These days don't know who is telling the truth anymore. Hmmmm.......

Cheers,

Its all about race and religion these days

Me stupid ? Nah....

I am sick to my bones these days! Everywhere I go the discussions are on the same thing. It is everywhere. It is in the papers, TV , Radio and even the Internet. Yup everything these days are about "Race and religion".
These two things can get so many people worked up into some sort of zombie like frenzy. Its true at least for me. You see..I cant help recalling images from the movies like Nightmare on Elm Street or even Friday the Thirteen when i see how some people react to certain issues concerning the two matters of late. I cant begin to understand why some behave the way they do.And mind you some are Y Berhormat's and lawyers and what not. The so called people that are supposed to have been educated and schooled in the best of universities and schools were seen behaving like common thugs and even criminals I dare say. When you hear these people speak you begin to wonder immediately ... Hey what happened to all that love and compassion that your religion teaches you ? Where is the understanding and tolerance that you claim your religion has taught you ? Why do you have to speak like that ? Why do you threaten to inflict violence on others ? Why ?
Some say we must forever close our universities. Some say we must forever fight and jealously guard our "rights". Some say we must forever be the "tuan". Some say you are the "guests" in the house and therefore have no rights over the house. They argue that the original Land lord is the only person who has rights. All you guests are merely afforded some "privileges" by virtue of being guests. As guests I guess what the land lords are saying is that maybe you guests should not overstay your welcome! All this after 51 years of Independence ? All this after working and toiling together to make this country what it is today ? I strongly believe that that there is no one single race that can take the credit for making Malaysia what it is today. It was a joint effort. Period. So why talk in terms of guest and land lords ?
These are the things that drive me nuts these days. In all the 51 years of independence I would have thought that the people of this country would have been able to sit down and discuss matters with open minds and of course in a civil manner. I guess sadly we as a nation have a lot more growing up to do. Maybe we are not ready to compete with the rest of the world. Maybe we are more comfortable in wanting to play "masak-masak" in our little backyard. Maybe we do not wish to progress and see that we become the model nation that we wish to achieve. Vision 2020 ? Nah.... More like we are just plain blind and stupid! Sad rather very sad.
Will we ever become a nation where everyone has an equal place under the Malaysian sun irrespective of race, creed and religion ?
"If we cannot love the person whom we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see ? " -Mother Theresa.

Who is policing the police ?

Wonder who is policing the police ?

Why are there reports of theft in the police stations these days ? Every other day these days we read about how the exhibits in certain cases go missing. And the strange thing is they go missing in the Police Stations ! As a matter of fact it is beginning to be quite a norm these days. Looks like we have to get a special police force just to police the police. As a an average Joe Public I state out loud and clear the following words. I have lost all confidence in the police force.

I can give you many reasons why i say so and list some of them below. My list is not exhaustive and is not listed in priority.

1) The rampant use of excessive force as in the Bandar Mahkota Cheras incident;

2) The failure of the police force in ensuring that the forum at the Bar council was not interrupted by hooligans and extremists;

3) Failing to arrest all who had made "racial slurs" and "threats of violence" against the organisers of the forum at the Bar Council and its participants;

5) The selected use of water canons and batons during illegal assemblies;

6) Failing to make arrests during certain illegal assemblies;

7) The loss of material evidence in certain cases;

8) "That is for us to know" mentality as illustrated in the latest loss of evidence case in Seremban;

9) Perceived rampant corrupt practices;

10) Shoddy investigations.

Do I need to list down more ?

I say that what we need is the setting up of the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC). The setting up of such body is vigorously opposed by the police presently. They argue that they will be subservient to the body and therefore cannot function independently. I don't think these sort of arguments hold any water. Initially the government was in full support of the IPCMC but later in true "flip flop" policy that it holds, decided against it!

Will we ever see the setting up of the IPCMC here in our beloved nation ?

What is so wrong in having discussions ?

Very sad!!!

Very very sad !!!

So, so very sad!!!

I cant begin to describe my feelings at the moment. Yes I am talking about the discussions on the problems of conversion to Islam conducted by the Malaysian Bar Council. I can only summarise by saying I am very sad. Plain sad !

I cant understand why discussions held in a civilised manner would be tantamount to questioning the rights of certain people under the constitution. There have been many occasions that I have not seen eye to eye with the policies and actions of the Bar Council. Sometimes in the past I had thought that the Bar Council should not have acted in the way they had acted in certain matters. This public forum scheduled for last Sunday is definitely not one such issue that I disagreed with the Bar Council.

Having said that I think the forum organised by the Bar Council would have done more good than harm for society as a whole. There are some very serious problems that arise when certain people convert to Islam when they are legally still married to non muslims. There are many reported cases that highlight the problems that can arise.

In some of these cases problems arose when some argue that the Civil courts do not have jurisdiction to hear any matters in cases where one party is a Muslim. They then argue that the proper forum would be the Syariah courts. These people conveniently forget that such people had contracted their marriages under the Civil laws in the first place. The Civil courts who are supposed to ensure that the proper forum should vest in the civil courts then state otherwise.

Anyway to put it in a nut shell there are many problems that need to be addressed rationally and with lots of compassion throw in for good measure. The Bar Council forum would have been one such avenue to explore the possible solutions for resolving such problems. Sadly some did not see it that way. They see it as a challenge against Islam. They then caused for the abandonment of the forum. Sad!

I speak for myself here. I think no one is questioning the right of any person to embrace Islam. I think problems arise only after conversions. Sadly, some conversions are not made known to family members and disputes arise later. When there is a dispute as to children, property etc. Where do parties go ? The Civil Courts or the Syariah Courts ? This problem needs to be addressed soon in a fair, rational and compassionate manner by the powers that be.

I believe that we Malaysians (Muslims and non muslims ) are a mature lot. A lot more mature than most politicians think we are. I am quite sure that we can all sit down and discuss matters with open hearts to see that all problems are sorted out in a civil manner. To say otherwise would be ....... real sad !!!

So was it "rela" or "tak rela" ?

Manyak peninglah! Which is it now ? Rela or tak rela ?

I was in court yesterday morning. No I didn't go to court just to gawk at Anwar. I was there to attend to some other matters. These days waking up just to go to court is such a chore. Anyway that is not why I am writing here.
I was early in court yesterday. I was aware that Anwar was going to be charged and I didn't want to have any parking problems. I was in court by 7.15 am actually. Imagine my horror when I saw that the entire court complex overrun by our boys in blue even at that time. Even the FRU boys in full gear were present. Talk about overkill!!! No wonder you cant find a copper when you need one.
Anyway now that Anwar has been formally charged and given bail, I have just this one question running through my head. Now the other day that Saiful chap made a police report saying he was sodomised against his will. Ok, no problem with that. But now the charge that has been read in court seems to suggest that the act of sodomy was consensual ! Hello apa main-main kah ? Which is it now ? Rela or tak Rela ?
So typical as to how this country is being run presently. One cannot know what is the official position on any thing anymore. Everything is so "flip flop"!
Anyway the thing that I had wanted to highlight here is this. Why is the Anwar "trial" given so much importance by the authorities ? What happened to the investigations into the Judicial fiasco ? Remember the "Lingam tapes"? What happened ? Weren't we, the citizens of this country "sodomised" by some very so called prominent people ? Which is more important; the private matter between two "consenting" male individuals or the institution that is one of the main pillars of any civil society ?
I don't get it . Do you ?

Stop the nonsense PKR

PKR goons at work. Shame on you!

I am very disappointed with the PKR people. I had such high hopes that these people would be different from the BN monkeys. Looks like I was very wrong. Beating up an unarmed woman who was just doing her job is plain stupid! Why.. what is so wrong in trying to take pictures of Anwar ? Look the poor woman was just trying to do her job. Should she have broken some "protocol" in her zeal in trying to take Anwar's picture, couldn't you have told her politely ? We the general public had so much hope in you as the potential alternative government. From your actions I am beginning to seriously the wisdom in giving you my vote during the last election. You people promised better recognition for human rights. So what happened ? I am also very disappointed in that Anwar fellow as well. Why didn't he do something or say something to condemn his people after the incident? Sivarasa ? Were you not a "human rights" lawyer ? Tian Chua how ? All of you what happened ?

Sad, real sad. Politicians.... ah...Just cant trust them!

Hazy days are back !

What is the government doing about this haze menace ?

I dread the dry season. It is the time of the year when the haze rears its ugly head again. This haze phenomenon is a recurring yearly event in Malaysia. I tell you why I dread this haze thing. Both my sons have been diagnosed with asthma since very young, in fact ever since they were babies. (The older of the two boys is more prone to asthma attacks.) The haze once it makes its yearly appearance makes me shiver with fear. This haze simply makes the asthma attacks more frequent and more persistent.
I can't understand this haze thing. It has been going on for years and there seems to be no end in sight with this problem. Every time the haze comes back the politicians give out the same old excuses/cerita as to why it is happening. "Oh it is the forest fires lah!" "Peat fires in Sumatra" The fires in Indonesia " blah, blah,blah..... "Stay indoors, no out door activities" "drink lots of water" blah,blah.... Year in year out you hear the same things. " We are doing all we can to help indonesia" " Our Malaysian companies are not responsible for open burning" blah,blah.... Ya right!!!
Come on lah you Gomen people. Do something once and for all to rid us of this problem once and for all. Not only can't we afford to eat or drive these days we also can't get clean air to breathe these days. Terrible state of affairs! Surely there must be a way to solve this yearly recurring problem. Any ideas people?
Maybe we should sue the Malaysian/Indonesian government for failing in its duty to provide clean air for its citizenry ?

Merdeka month again!

My flag is flying up side down this year!

I am in solidarity with a few other bloggers in "flying the flag up side down" this year. Speaking of year, what a year it has been. Simply amazing. The events since January this year has been simply amazing I tell you. Anyway, these are my reasons for wanting to fly the flag upside down this year for Merdeka (my list is not listed in priority) :-

1) Lack of respect from the powers that be for human rights in this country;

2) Escalating fuel prices and other essential items;

3) A government that hasn't a clue as to how to govern the country;

4) Promotion of Malay rights instead of "Malaysian rights";

5) Total lack of understanding, tolerance and compassion for people of other than the Muslim faith in certain controversial cases;

6)The lack of political will on the part of the government to ensure that the Judiciary gets cleaned up;

7) The MRR2 fiasco;

8) The "A" murder trial;

9) A flip flop PM;

10) A Deputy PM that is "tainted";

11) The Polis Raja Di Malaysia "problem";

12) The Anwar sex allegations that never seems to end;

13) The ex PM who continues to rave and rant like how ex Dictators normally do;

14) The education policy that continues to produce "losers";

15) The lack of understanding and genuine unity amongst the races despite 51 years of independence;

16) The corruption and abuses of power that never seems to end;

17) The Haze ;

18) The mainstream media that lacks courage, professionalism and integrity;

19) The Mercedes vs Perdana debate by some Terengganu monkeys;

20) The YB's in Parliament that we should rightly address as Yang Biadap;

21) The blockade/closure of major roads on the "intelligence" that some people were planning a demonstration;

22) The "I siasat you and you siasat me" syndrome that never goes away;

23) A toothless ACA;

24) UMNO;

25) MIC;

26) MCA;

27) PPP;

28) Gerakan:

29) PKR;

30) PAS;

31) Malaysian Politicians in general

I can go on and on and on..... but I think I will stop here for now. The flag flying upside down is a distress signal should you not know. I am praying that the powers that be will notice this and take steps to remedy the problems that seem to plague this wonderful nation of ours.

Merdeka!!!

Released at last!

I am glad to announce that my client was released from the Batu Gajah detention camp on Friday night sometime at about 9 pm. Finally after seven days of the order being issued to release him, my client has been freed. I think it speaks volumes of what the words "human rights" really mean in this country.

Real idiots !

This is how I think of civil servants !

I am sorry if any of you diligent, hard working civil servants out there feel insulted by the picture above. This picture is for the ones that are best described as idiots. I am mad today and I will tell you why.

My client has been detained under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985 since 3rd of April 2005. He has been alleged to have been involved in some international drug syndicate in CHINA! Anyway the original detention order expired on 2/4/07 wherein an extension was made for a further 2 years. To make a long story short after filing a writ of Habeas Corpus application in court and after 2 representations made to the Honourable Minister, the Minister finally agreed to cancel the detention effective 25/7/08.

This is where all hell breaks loose. I faxed a letter to the Detention camp on Tuesday 27/7/08 for my client to be released. Guess what ? Them idiots up in the detention center refuse to release him despite me giving them a copy of the Minister's new perintah. They say this.. selagi polis tak bagi kat kita original tak boleh kasi lepas !!!" I call up the Kementerian Dalam Negeri and they say "kena tunggu sampai serahlah!" I try calling up the police and they say "macam mana you tau dia sudah kasi perintah ?" It is like a never ending circle of idiots !!!

Anyway I have given them idiots until Monday the 4/8/08 to release my client or else i am calling for a press conference to highlight the stupid system we have in this country. First you arrest a man and later detain him for three years without any trial. When they are supposed to release the poor chap they come up with all sorts of absolute rubbish of an excuse. I tell you those words " Human rights" don't mean a thing in this country. Down right sad and pathetic even.

Mad as hell today,

M V Nathan
