Sanjeev Kumar a/l Krishnan ATP 2689/2007I met Sanjeev in his house at Tanjung Malim on Tuesday 23/9/08. Prior to this meeting I last met him when he was in Hopital Bahagia, Ulu Kinta, Perak where he was warded for severe depression. Sanjeev was detained under the ISA for allegedly being an "agen perisik asing". This is a charge that Sanjeev vehemently denies. To date Sanjeev has yet to be charged for any offence under the law in open court. I shall not discuss the merits of his case here for obvious reasons.
Sanjeev was first detained under section 73(1) of the ISA. He claims to have been physically and mentally abused by the police during the 55 days that he was detained by the police. He claims that he had been verbally abused,beaten,punched, kicked, sodomised by hard objects and even made to drink his own urine.
Sanjeev is confined to a wheel chair today. He has lost use of his left hand and leg.He says that he is in this predicament as a result of him being tortured by the police.
Initially Sanjeev's detention under Section 8 (1) of the ISA was to run from 21/9/07 expiring in the year 2009. Sanjeev has been released from the Kamunting Detention camp from the 9/9/08. The order suspending the earlier Section 8 order has been issued under Section 10 of the ISA. This new section 10 order states that he is restricted to the district of Slim River, Perak. He is restricted to leave the district without the prior consent and approval of the Ketua Polis Negeri. He is to report and sign his name at the register book at the nearest police station to his home every Monday from the hours of 8.00 AM till 6.00PM. He is further restricted to his house from the hours of 9PM till 6AM. These are some of the restrictions that has been placed on this man.
Sanjeev is married and has no children. He says that the rental for the house he presently stays with his wife has not been paid for the past one(1) year. He is presently totally dependant on his wife to care for all his needs. He cannot contribute to the household needs due to his present condition. He is unsure what the future holds for him and prays that the truth would be revealed and justice would prevail in the end.
If anyone says that the ISA is not cruel nor is it an afront to human rights and dignity, I suggest that you take a good look at the picture above and think again!

I agreed with u. ISA shouldn't be there in the first place. Any human beings shouldn't be treated like this.
Lets we fight together to abolish ISA and any laws which allows detention without trial.

Good article. Perhaps this case should get more public exposure. A civil suit on the way perhaps?

To anon of 5.06 pm... a civil suit ? Certainly in the near future. Problems of getting arround the restrictions placed on the man. Sanjeev is presently not allowed to give an interview or to speak about himself or his detention to anyone.
