PM on the LRT
Wah ! So concerned for the Rakyat ! Only now Sir ?
My 12 year old son asked me a very interesting question regarding the above picture.This picture appeared in the Star newspaper recently. He asked me why are some of the people in the picture breaking the law ? I said what ?.. What do you mean ? Then he said this. "Were we not taught not to cross the yellow line at the LRT station ? Are there not signs to that effect at the LRT stations ? So why is the PM not doing anything about it ? Is he not concerned for the safety of the people who were clearly "overjoyed" to see him ? Why is the PM allowing these people to be law breakers ? Frankly, I had no answers. Sometimes kids see things that we adults just don't see. Hmmm.......
I guess in some small way this picture reflects the current rot in the country. It is an illustration of how you can get away with something if you are well connected. Remember the Lingam tapes ? Ah... so long ago. All is quiet now... hardly a word mentioned in the papers these days. Sad ! "Malaysia Boleh !!!" you say ?
Sigh....

Wah... who is this now ?
Any guesses as to who is in the middle of this picture ? What's up SIL ? I thought you very macho and all. What's with the girlie dress ? Macam mana ni ?
Ah... now we know what the SIL does in his free time... Hmmm..... Malaysia Boleh !

Nice one Mr C !
Kita semua dok tunggulah ! Sampai tumbuh tanduk you !
Mr C who keeps sending me interesting e-mails has sent me a poser. I liked the poser enough to put it here. Wonder if you can fill in the blanks ?
ANWAR - PM IN WAITING
A A B - OPPOSITION LEADER IN WAITING
N T R - PRI_ _ _ _ _ IN WAITING ?
Fill in the blanks guys. Have fun. Its all in jest !!!
Cheers,
M V Nathan
Anwar the new PM ? Really ? Dont pray pray!
If it happens then the BN would be shell shocked!
Is it it possible ? Would there be crossovers from the BN to the Pakatan coallition ? Would history be made ? Would the opposition front really be governing this country come September ? Would Anwar be PM ?
I don't know any of the answers to the above questions. I am stumped. But many people I know are adamant that this man Anwar is going to be installed as the new PM of Malaysia come September! I don't knowlah. Simply just too much to digest these days. Anyway this man has to win the by election in Permatang Pauh this 26 first. Will he win ? It will take a very brave man to bet against this from happening. I am sure he will win. The only question is by what kind of majority ?
So come the 26/8/08 by my " crystal ball", Anwar should be back in Parliament. Well and good. Does that mean a better Malaysia for all Malaysians irrespective of race, creed and religion? Would it mean a better Malaysia where equal and fair oppotunities are given to everyone ? Real meritocracy paractised as opposed to the sham that is being practised now ? A better Malaysia in all aspects ? Hmmm....
Looks like we all have to wait and see how the story ends. I am hoping for a happy ending. For this I am keeping my fingers crossed. Maybe I should cross my toes too. Just to be on the safe side. You never knowlah with politics in Malaysia ..... "Semua boleh !!!"

Truth or lies ?
Stop you liar ! Speak the truth or forever be gone!
I read that a certain "victim" had sworn on the holy book claiming that he was sodomised by a certain someone. He says that it is a personal matter between him, the perpetrator and God almighty. It also appears that the so called perpetrator is also a potential candidate for a certain by election. The thing that I found incredible in the whole matter are the responses that this "victim" gave the press yesterday i.e as follow:-
a) He didn't know that the alleged perpetrator was going to be standing in the by election sometime soon. It was purely a coincidence.
b) He was making this matter as a "personal" matter between him,God and the alleged perpetrator.
c) He is straight and not gay and certainly not in love with the alleged perpetrator.
Responses from me would be this. I am just thinking out aloud here. I find the above responses by the "victim" incredible because of this :-
a) Didn't the "victim" make certain postings on his blog before which was dutifully carried in the mainstream media that he was wishing the alleged perpetrator all the best in the up coming by elections? How can he not know now that the alleged perpetrator was going to be a candidate in the up coming by elections ? Strange... mmmmm....
b) Personal matter ? Duh... going to see the DPM and police and all other people is making it personal ? Man... that is calling it "publicising to the whole world lah"!!! Where got private and personal some more ?
c) Not gay ? Man the charges in court seem to indicate "consensual" to say the least. What not gay are you talking about lah ? Anyway why did you not immediately lodge a police report when it happened. 8 times ? Dear me that indicates "enjoyment of some kind" to say the least. Only report to police after meeting the DPM ? Why ah ? How come you so buddy buddy with him ah? Thought he was a very busy man ?
Anyway , maybe we should all wait for the trial to start. Sure very interesting one!
These days don't know who is telling the truth anymore. Hmmmm.......
Cheers,

Who is policing the police ?
I can give you many reasons why i say so and list some of them below. My list is not exhaustive and is not listed in priority.
1) The rampant use of excessive force as in the Bandar Mahkota Cheras incident;
2) The failure of the police force in ensuring that the forum at the Bar council was not interrupted by hooligans and extremists;
3) Failing to arrest all who had made "racial slurs" and "threats of violence" against the organisers of the forum at the Bar Council and its participants;
5) The selected use of water canons and batons during illegal assemblies;
6) Failing to make arrests during certain illegal assemblies;
7) The loss of material evidence in certain cases;
8) "That is for us to know" mentality as illustrated in the latest loss of evidence case in Seremban;
9) Perceived rampant corrupt practices;
10) Shoddy investigations.
Do I need to list down more ?
I say that what we need is the setting up of the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC). The setting up of such body is vigorously opposed by the police presently. They argue that they will be subservient to the body and therefore cannot function independently. I don't think these sort of arguments hold any water. Initially the government was in full support of the IPCMC but later in true "flip flop" policy that it holds, decided against it!
Will we ever see the setting up of the IPCMC here in our beloved nation ?

What is so wrong in having discussions ?
I cant begin to describe my feelings at the moment. Yes I am talking about the discussions on the problems of conversion to Islam conducted by the Malaysian Bar Council. I can only summarise by saying I am very sad. Plain sad !
I cant understand why discussions held in a civilised manner would be tantamount to questioning the rights of certain people under the constitution. There have been many occasions that I have not seen eye to eye with the policies and actions of the Bar Council. Sometimes in the past I had thought that the Bar Council should not have acted in the way they had acted in certain matters. This public forum scheduled for last Sunday is definitely not one such issue that I disagreed with the Bar Council.
Having said that I think the forum organised by the Bar Council would have done more good than harm for society as a whole. There are some very serious problems that arise when certain people convert to Islam when they are legally still married to non muslims. There are many reported cases that highlight the problems that can arise.
In some of these cases problems arose when some argue that the Civil courts do not have jurisdiction to hear any matters in cases where one party is a Muslim. They then argue that the proper forum would be the Syariah courts. These people conveniently forget that such people had contracted their marriages under the Civil laws in the first place. The Civil courts who are supposed to ensure that the proper forum should vest in the civil courts then state otherwise.
Anyway to put it in a nut shell there are many problems that need to be addressed rationally and with lots of compassion throw in for good measure. The Bar Council forum would have been one such avenue to explore the possible solutions for resolving such problems. Sadly some did not see it that way. They see it as a challenge against Islam. They then caused for the abandonment of the forum. Sad!
I speak for myself here. I think no one is questioning the right of any person to embrace Islam. I think problems arise only after conversions. Sadly, some conversions are not made known to family members and disputes arise later. When there is a dispute as to children, property etc. Where do parties go ? The Civil Courts or the Syariah Courts ? This problem needs to be addressed soon in a fair, rational and compassionate manner by the powers that be.
I believe that we Malaysians (Muslims and non muslims ) are a mature lot. A lot more mature than most politicians think we are. I am quite sure that we can all sit down and discuss matters with open hearts to see that all problems are sorted out in a civil manner. To say otherwise would be ....... real sad !!!

Stop the nonsense PKR
PKR goons at work. Shame on you!
I am very disappointed with the PKR people. I had such high hopes that these people would be different from the BN monkeys. Looks like I was very wrong. Beating up an unarmed woman who was just doing her job is plain stupid! Why.. what is so wrong in trying to take pictures of Anwar ? Look the poor woman was just trying to do her job. Should she have broken some "protocol" in her zeal in trying to take Anwar's picture, couldn't you have told her politely ? We the general public had so much hope in you as the potential alternative government. From your actions I am beginning to seriously the wisdom in giving you my vote during the last election. You people promised better recognition for human rights. So what happened ? I am also very disappointed in that Anwar fellow as well. Why didn't he do something or say something to condemn his people after the incident? Sivarasa ? Were you not a "human rights" lawyer ? Tian Chua how ? All of you what happened ?
Sad, real sad. Politicians.... ah...Just cant trust them!

Merdeka month again!
My flag is flying up side down this year!
I am in solidarity with a few other bloggers in "flying the flag up side down" this year. Speaking of year, what a year it has been. Simply amazing. The events since January this year has been simply amazing I tell you. Anyway, these are my reasons for wanting to fly the flag upside down this year for Merdeka (my list is not listed in priority) :-
1) Lack of respect from the powers that be for human rights in this country;
2) Escalating fuel prices and other essential items;
3) A government that hasn't a clue as to how to govern the country;
4) Promotion of Malay rights instead of "Malaysian rights";
5) Total lack of understanding, tolerance and compassion for people of other than the Muslim faith in certain controversial cases;
6)The lack of political will on the part of the government to ensure that the Judiciary gets cleaned up;
7) The MRR2 fiasco;
8) The "A" murder trial;
9) A flip flop PM;
10) A Deputy PM that is "tainted";
11) The Polis Raja Di Malaysia "problem";
12) The Anwar sex allegations that never seems to end;
13) The ex PM who continues to rave and rant like how ex Dictators normally do;
14) The education policy that continues to produce "losers";
15) The lack of understanding and genuine unity amongst the races despite 51 years of independence;
16) The corruption and abuses of power that never seems to end;
17) The Haze ;
18) The mainstream media that lacks courage, professionalism and integrity;
19) The Mercedes vs Perdana debate by some Terengganu monkeys;
20) The YB's in Parliament that we should rightly address as Yang Biadap;
21) The blockade/closure of major roads on the "intelligence" that some people were planning a demonstration;
22) The "I siasat you and you siasat me" syndrome that never goes away;
23) A toothless ACA;
24) UMNO;
25) MIC;
26) MCA;
27) PPP;
28) Gerakan:
29) PKR;
30) PAS;
31) Malaysian Politicians in general
I can go on and on and on..... but I think I will stop here for now. The flag flying upside down is a distress signal should you not know. I am praying that the powers that be will notice this and take steps to remedy the problems that seem to plague this wonderful nation of ours.
Merdeka!!!

Real idiots !
This is how I think of civil servants !
I am sorry if any of you diligent, hard working civil servants out there feel insulted by the picture above. This picture is for the ones that are best described as idiots. I am mad today and I will tell you why.
My client has been detained under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985 since 3rd of April 2005. He has been alleged to have been involved in some international drug syndicate in CHINA! Anyway the original detention order expired on 2/4/07 wherein an extension was made for a further 2 years. To make a long story short after filing a writ of Habeas Corpus application in court and after 2 representations made to the Honourable Minister, the Minister finally agreed to cancel the detention effective 25/7/08.
This is where all hell breaks loose. I faxed a letter to the Detention camp on Tuesday 27/7/08 for my client to be released. Guess what ? Them idiots up in the detention center refuse to release him despite me giving them a copy of the Minister's new perintah. They say this.. selagi polis tak bagi kat kita original tak boleh kasi lepas !!!" I call up the Kementerian Dalam Negeri and they say "kena tunggu sampai serahlah!" I try calling up the police and they say "macam mana you tau dia sudah kasi perintah ?" It is like a never ending circle of idiots !!!
Anyway I have given them idiots until Monday the 4/8/08 to release my client or else i am calling for a press conference to highlight the stupid system we have in this country. First you arrest a man and later detain him for three years without any trial. When they are supposed to release the poor chap they come up with all sorts of absolute rubbish of an excuse. I tell you those words " Human rights" don't mean a thing in this country. Down right sad and pathetic even.
Mad as hell today,
M V Nathan
